Christmas Lights

Way back as 18 year olds, Brandon and I were in the same family home evening group at BYU. One night we all planned to go up to Temple Square to see the lights. I don't think we could have picked a worse night weather wise. It was basically a white out, with awful roads and scary visibility.

And although at this point we both "liked" each other and were spending more time together, we somehow ended up in different cars for the 45 minute trip north. The car I was in made it. The car Brandon was in didn't.

His buddy had an old, unreliable car. I think it just broke down on the freeway, but my memory isn't 100 percent sure. Somehow Brandon, the boy without a coat, was voted to walk down the freeway, to the off ramp and find a gas station or at least a phone. Brandon said he tried out hitch hiking for the first time that night.

Eventually, another roommate came with a rope and towed them back to Provo.

It's a miracle Brandon still takes me to see the lights every year.
