Dear Santa
This year we were going to skip out on the whole writing Santa deal. Why? Because Reggie is a big kid and went and sat on his lap! I'm guessing around 4 is when most kids stop being super scared of Santa and start feeling more excited. At least that was his case. Yes, he was nervous. Yes, he wanted me and Brandon close by (and P was holding onto Brandon for dear life!). But he did it. He sat there and told Santa what he wanted. And the picture we got is hilarious.
When Santa asked what Reggie wanted this year for Christmas, he answered, "A rocket." Brandon and I looked at each other with this "huh?" look on our faces. Turns out he had seen this Buzz Lightyear spaceship at Target, decided it was a rocket, and now wanted it for Christmas. When Brandon and I went out shopping for gifts, we peeked at the rocket and decided no way. It was almost $60, didn't come with any figures, and just looked like a toy he would play with once and never again. We have too many of those toys to add another, so we decided to cross our fingers that he would change his mind or just forget about it.
But he didn't. Every time he was asked, "What do you want from Santa?", he was quick to say a rocket. We took him to the toy aisles and every time he was adamant that he wanted the rocket.
And then a miracle. I realized he needed new shoes. So yesterday while doing some other shopping, we stopped in the shoe department and found some fabulous Spiderman light-up shoes. He was in heaven. And he said he wanted Santa to bring them....and a rocket. So me, seeing a loop hole said, "Well, Santa has lots of kids to take toys to. Could you pick one? Would you like the rocket or these Spiderman shoes?" And he said he'd like the shoes. Hallelujah!
And then he was all concerned about going back to see Santa, but I told him we would just write a letter as soon as P went to bed for her nap.
And that's exactly what we did.
Dear Santa,
How is Mrs. Claus? How are you? Mrs. Claus is your wife.
Please don't bring me a rocket. I changed my mind. Bring me new Spiderman shoes.
We will leave you cookies and a glass of milk. Or a glass of juice if you are thirsty. Thank you for our presents.
Love,
Reggie
P.S. Please bring me a big bunch of presents under the Christmas tree. And Penny would like a baby doll.

We've never written Santa at our house but I really want to this year.
So cute! Glad you were able to dodge the rocket. And way to go Reg for being so brave and talking to Santa!
He is sooo dang cute!!!! What I wouldn't do to have some of my little kids back this time of year--that's where you find the "magic" of the season!
